WWE Smackdown Recap - 9/25/09

consumption have caused them to forget all of his accomplishments. Punk is the only 3-time Straight-Edge World Heavyweight Champion. He is the only back-to-back Money in the Bank winner. He got rid of Jeff Hardy forever. He is the only person to make the Undertaker tap out. And he did this all without drugs, alcohol, and the fans support.
So, Punk wants someone from the back who has some type of power to come down and show him some respect for all this accomplishments. Come out and tell Punk who his next opponent will be. The druid chants begin, the lights go out, and the druids begin their death march to the ring, rolling a casket. Punk grabs a steel chair. He thinks the Undertaker is inside. A few chair shots to the top of the casket before Punk opens the lid. Surprise, surprise, it’s…Theodore Long, bound and gagged.
Punk makes a couple of jokes at Long’s, ‘Taker’s, and the fans expense before helping the GM out of the casket. Once Long can speak, he informs Punk that he has removed the ban on the Hell’s Gate move and that Punk will face ‘Taker at Hell in a Cell, in get this, a Hell in a Cell match. Punk is not happy. Long stumbles to the back in his tattered suit.

Smackdown! is coming to you this week from Tulsa, Oklahoma and Jim Ross feels right at home. Perhaps this week they will give us a better explanation of the reason behind the screw job at Breaking Point. Will we ever see Theodore Long again? Does Drew McIntyre continue to beat the hell out of R-Truth? These questions and more are the reasons why we continue to tune into FNSD (sarcastic much?).
The show begins with a recap of Teddy Long’s recent troubles with the Deadman. Then the World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk, is introduced and he makes his way to the ring amid a whole lot of booing. He begins by telling the fans that their alcohol and drug

Match #1: John Morrison and Finlay v. Mike Knox and Dolph Ziggler
The WWE places two feuds into one match here and, thankfully, they are four individuals who can work. The heels do a good job early on in the match of keeping Finlay isolated. We get a few near tags to Morrison, just to tease us. Finally, Finlay is able to get to the Intercontinental Champion after avoiding a corner splash by Ziggler. Jumping leg lariat by Morrison followed by a standing Shooting Star Press only gets him a two count. Springboard kick to Knox’s head gets
a two as well, as Ziggler broke up the ref’s count. Knox goes for his devastating crossbody but hits Ziggler accidentally. While the ref checks on the blond, Finlay cracks Knox with the shillelagh and Morrison connects with Starship Pain.
Winner: Morrison and Finlay by pinfall, Starship Pain
Opinion: Very good opening match. All four men impressed me. I really hope that Knox gets into the IC title picture in the near future.
Backstage, Cryme Tyme, Eve, and Slam Master J are talking in the hall. Shad tells SMJ that if he wants to be down with CT that he has to prove himself. Shad gives him a can of spray paint and SMJ heads into Teddy’s office. He returns with a few “stolen” DVDs (cheap plug for WWE merchandise). Long’s voice is heard in the background shouting. Cryme Tyme and Eve runs off, leaving SMJ. Long grabs his ear and tells him he has a match tonight after defacing his office.
Main Event: CM Punk v. The Undertaker (non-title match)
Punk is trying to avoid the Undertaker early on. It only lasts but so long. Before we go to the commercial break, ‘Taker tosses Punk over the top rope. Back from getting money from advertisers, the men are outside the ring. Undertaker hits a leg drop on the apron. When they go back in the ring, Punk is soon able to get the upperhand. He hits a superplex on the Deadman. He can’t get a three count, though.
Match #2: Slam Master J v. Kane
I guess now that Khali is gone, Kane is back to having random matches. Not much to tell here, Kane hits a side slam followed by the chokeslam.
Winner: Kane by pinfall, using chokeslam
Opinion: This was a squash. The only difference is, SMJ has theme music.
Punk catches up with Vince McMahon (he won’t leave SD! now). Punk
wants to know if Vince will allow what happened earlier to occur. Vince tells Punk that it wasn’t his conspiracy at Breaking Point. Punk, Long, and the ref have to deal with it themselves.
We are back from commercial and McMahon is in the ring. He quickly loses the cheers he received after he makes fun of Oklahoma. Next week is a Decade of Smackdown! Celebration. Vince then wants to introduce a talent he personally signed. A man who is a future world champion. His name is Drew McIntyre. McIntyre comes to the ring; McMahon leaves. McIntyre says that no one can match his talent. A loud “USA” chant starts up. We are warned that after next week’s celebration, SD! will be all about McIntyre. R-Truth comes through the crowd rapping. He tells the Scot that he wants to “welcome” him to SD!. The men begin to brawl in the ring.

Match #3: Batista v. Big Show
You’ve got a guy who can’t really wrestle and another guy who is considered boring. Great. Show is in control early and he taunts the Animal. Chris Jericho is outside the ring providing extra trash talk. A spear by Show after Jericho distracts Batista. Big Show drops a leg on ‘Tista but only gets a two count. After avoiding a splash from the middle ropes by his opponent, Batista gets his opening. He spears Big Show and goes for a Batista Bomb but can’t do it. Duh! Show goes for a chokeslam
but he gets some elbows to the head. Batista is able to lock the big man into an ankle lock. Jericho rushes in and he is thrown into the ankle lock. Bell rings.
Winner: Batista by DQ
Opinion: I can never understand how a person can win a match by DQ when the person who enters the ring doesn’t even lay a finger on them. In fact, the person who entered gets beat up. Either way, it wasn’t a great match. The crowd was silent somewhere along the middle. Batista seems to have added a new move. He is now up to 5, I guess.
Back in Long’s office, Vince wants to know where his picture is. The GM brings it out and we finally see what SMJ had spray-painted. McMahon isn’t happy.
We get an in-depth look of Are You Smarter than a Fifth-Grader featuring John Morrison and the Miz. The season premiere airs Tuesday on MyNetwork TV.

Match #4: JTG w/ Shad and Eve v. David Hart Smith w/ Tyson Kidd and Natalya
JTG starts striking the bigger man immediately and his quickness catches Smith off guard. Powerslam by Smith. JTG is able to get back the upperhand and hits his leg lariat from the middle rope. Natalya places Smith’s foot on the rope to stop the ref’s count. Eve runs over and we get a distraction on the outside. Kidd hits a kick to JTG’s head while the ref is not looking. Smith hits a suplex for the win.

Winner: David Hart Smith by pinfall, using suplex
Opinion: Another match up between these two teams. Ugh! JTG was able to get in most of the offense during this match. It wasn’t extremely long. The action wasn’t bad either. I still want to see more tag teams. For more news on tag teams, read the next sentence.
Batista is backstage and informs us, along with JeriShow, that he and Rey Mysterio will challenge the tag champs for the belts at Hell in a Cell. Don’t you just love the wrestling world, more so WWE, for allowing someone the chance to win gold right after they return from suspension?
